Fisherman's Tale Fish Replicas

History

Fisherman's Tale specializes in creating replicas of a variety of fish species and museum displays. The actual specimen is used for the mold making process. A cast is made using a variety of materials and painted to duplicate the original. Hundreds of fish can be saved using this technique.

This promotes a "catch and release" philosophy in the sport fishing industry.

A permanent replica can be created from measurements of the length and girth of a caught fish. The fish can then be released back into the wild using proper catch and release techniques. The measurements and photograph can then be used to match the fish with an existing similar mold from inventory.

A reference photograph of the fish is not required but is helpful. If a casting is desired of your actual caught fish, arrangements can be made to accommodate your needs.

Construction of the Replica

Over 100 models of freshwater fish and Salmon have already been cast and are available. The process begins with the creation of a detailed mold of the fish, which leaves a highly detailed impression that includes scale and fin texture. The scales are so detailed that they even illustrate the growth rings - a feature very hard to cast with most methods.

A cast of the body of the fish is then made from the mold using polyester resins and fibre. The tail and fins are cast using a similar flexible resin. Pelvic and pectoral fins are cast separately and attached. The flexible fins and tail are durable and can be handled without breakage.

The head is also cast separately and attached, leaving the opercles (gill plates) separate from the body for added realism. Heads even include teeth detail like you see in this Northern Pike. High quality eyes are added to complete the lifelike model.

The blank model can then be painted to match the species desired. All of these combined features, make the finished product the most lifelike and realistic reproduction available.

The painted replica can be displayed in various methods including wall and pedestal mount methods. Your fish can be enclosed in a glass case, or mounted onto driftwood. Rocks, gravel, or sand can be incorporated into the display. Smaller fish can be added to illustrate the trophy fish chasing food. Fisherman's Tale can easily customize a display of the fish to your preference.
